Gonadotropins

Gonadotropins are injectable fertility hormones containing FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and sometimes LH (luteinizing hormone) that directly stimulate the ovaries to develop multiple mature follicles, used when oral fertility medications have not achieved ovulation. In women with PCOS, low-dose 'step-up' gonadotropin protocols are preferred to minimize the significant risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) and multiple pregnancies, as PCOS ovaries tend to be extremely sensitive to stimulation. Treatment requires close monitoring with regular ultrasounds and blood tests to ensure safe and effective response.
