Semaglutide
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist medication available as a weekly injection (branded as Ozempic for diabetes and Wegovy for weight management) that has shown promising results for women with PCOS struggling with weight loss and insulin resistance. By mimicking the GLP-1 hormone, semaglutide reduces appetite, improves insulin sensitivity, slows gastric emptying, and promotes significant weight loss—all of which can meaningfully improve PCOS symptoms, hormonal balance, and fertility outcomes. While not yet FDA-approved specifically for PCOS, semaglutide is increasingly prescribed off-label, and many women in the PCOS community report improvements in menstrual regularity and reduced 'food noise' alongside weight loss.
