IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is an assisted reproductive technology where eggs are retrieved directly from the ovaries after hormonal stimulation, fertilized with sperm in a laboratory, and then carefully selected embryos are transferred into the uterus. For women with PCOS, IVF is typically considered when less invasive treatments like ovulation induction and IUI have been unsuccessful, and it often provides excellent success rates due to the generally higher egg reserve associated with PCOS. However, IVF requires careful protocol management in women with PCOS because of their increased risk for ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), making specialist oversight essential.
