Lean PCOS

Lean PCOS refers to women who meet the diagnostic criteria for PCOS but have a BMI in the normal range (under 25), representing approximately 20-30% of all PCOS cases. Women with lean PCOS experience the same hormonal imbalances and symptoms as other forms—including irregular periods, excess hair growth, acne, and fertility challenges—but without the visible weight gain that often prompts medical investigation, which can lead to delayed diagnosis. Despite their normal weight, lean women with PCOS can still have significant insulin resistance and are at increased risk for glucose intolerance and metabolic complications, making screening and management equally important.
