Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory polyunsaturated fats found primarily in fatty fish (salmon, sardines, mackerel), fish oil supplements, and plant sources like flaxseed and walnuts. In PCOS, omega-3 supplementation helps combat the chronic low-grade inflammation that drives androgen overproduction and metabolic dysfunction, with research showing improvements in triglycerides, hormonal markers (LH, testosterone, SHBG), inflammatory markers (CRP), mood, and menstrual regularity. Most studies use doses of 1,000-3,000 mg combined EPA and DHA daily, making omega-3s one of the most broadly beneficial supplements for PCOS management.
