Statins

Statins are cholesterol-lowering medications (such as atorvastatin, simvastatin, and rosuvastatin) that are occasionally used off-label in PCOS management due to their ability to improve lipid profiles and potentially reduce androgen levels by limiting the cholesterol available for steroid hormone production. Some research suggests statins may also have anti-inflammatory benefits relevant to PCOS, though evidence for routine use in PCOS is mixed. Statins should not be used during pregnancy or when actively trying to conceive, and their use in PCOS requires careful evaluation of individual cardiovascular risk factors and metabolic profiles by a healthcare provider.
