Oxidative Stress

Oxidative stress occurs when harmful free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulate faster than the body's antioxidant defense systems can neutralize them, resulting in cellular damage to proteins, fats, DNA, and particularly mitochondria (the energy-producing structures within cells). Women with PCOS have elevated oxidative stress that negatively impacts egg quality, ovarian function, insulin signaling, and cardiovascular health, contributing to the fertility challenges and metabolic complications associated with the condition. Supporting the body's antioxidant defenses through a diet rich in colorful fruits and vegetables, supplementation with CoQ10 and NAC, regular exercise, stress reduction, and adequate sleep helps counteract oxidative damage and protect reproductive and metabolic health.
